BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Opie came in as an owner surrender on 7/29/2015. It is reported Opie has lived with adults, teenagers, young children, dogs and cats and got along with all of them in the home. It is reported he will chew if left alone. Owner describes Opie as friendly, very active, craves attention, loves to play, plays mouthy, jumps up and likes to hug. Opie was nervous and tense during his medical exam, growling. He walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, with sudden bursts of playful energy, play bowing at handler from time to time during the walk. Opie allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body neutral, tail down. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity, tail down, ears back. Opie became uncomfortable during Tag, following at the end of leash but cautiously, by the third pass he growled with a hard stare and stopped moving. He lifted his head out of the Food bowl with a bit of pressure from assess-a-hand , body a bit stiff. Opie had minimal interest in Toy. He snapped at assess-a-hand with stiff body when approached during Rawhide. Off leash with other dogs, Opie was playful and social. Opie would do best with a New Hope partner that can follow up on any tense/nervous/growling/snapping behaviors before placing in a permanent home. He may benefit from obedience classes and crate training to curtail any anxious behaviors reported by owner when left alone in the home as well as body awareness for jumping up and mouthing. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a neutral body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body soft, mouth closed, ears back. Tag: 5. Dog stands his ground while not cornered and growls at the Assessor with ears forward, body stiff. Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with his tail down, body a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in toy. Rawhide: 5. Dog snaps, body stiff. dog-dog: off leash with other dogs, Opie is playful, social and tolerant.
